Craftsman homes emphasize handiwork, featuring design elements such as knee braces, exposed rafter tails and beams, elaborated rafter ends and verge boards, and front porches with tapered columns. Construction often includes shingle lapped siding, double-hung windows with multiple-lights on top and single-pane below. Craftsman interiors usually consist of an open floor plan with extensive use of hand-crafted built-ins, such as bookcases and window seats.
